“Schoolyard turned ballot ground – GHSS Kilimanur writes democracy in action.”
14 August 2025 – Election Day at GHSS Kilimanur
Today, GHSS Kilimanur was filled with the vibrant spirit of democracy as the entire school entered election mode. The Principal and presiding officers gave proper instructions, and the process was carried out with the same discipline and seriousness as a real election. From the atmosphere in the classrooms to the procedures followed, the day stood as a practical lesson in democratic values, showing students how leadership is chosen fairly through the will of the majority.
In the morning, class elections were held to select Class Leaders. Ballot papers were distributed, polling took place in order, and counting was done with transparency. I had the opportunity to assist in the process, especially in the vote counting section, which gave me firsthand experience of maintaining fairness and responsibility in such duties. By 11:15 a.m., the results were declared, and the joy and excitement of the winners echoed through the corridors of GHSS Kilimanur.
The afternoon session brought the School Parliamentary Election, which further heightened the atmosphere of responsibility and enthusiasm. Students, candidates, and supporters all displayed discipline, reflecting the values of citizenship and democratic participation. For me, this day was more than just observing an event—it was a meaningful experience of how schools like GHSS Kilimanur nurture future citizens by providing them with opportunities to practice leadership, fairness, and teamwork within a democratic framework.
