Schoolyard Stories-Stepping into my passion

1st week (16,17,18)

Teaching practice is the first step into real classroom life. It’s a time to meet students, understand how the school works, and try out teaching methods. These first days are full of learning and new experiences that shape us as teachers.

The first week of teaching practice was filled with excitement, learning, and meaningful experiences. At GHSS Kilimanur, we received a warm welcome and guidance from the teachers, which gave me confidence to begin my journey. Standing in front of the class plus one  for the very first time was both challenging and inspiring, but the interaction with students created an energetic atmosphere that made me feel at ease.

The week also gave me an opportunity to understand the broader responsibilities of school life. On one strike day, when regular classes were suspended, I worked closely with senior teachers in preparing the Teachers’ and Class Timetable. This collaborative task involved planning periods for 27 teachers and arranging schedules for 12 higher secondary classes. Working under the guidance of experienced teachers taught me the importance of organisation, accuracy, and cooperation in ensuring the smooth functioning of the school.

Looking back, the first week was a rewarding experience. It not only helped me grow in confidence as a teacher but also reminded me that teaching is not confined to classroom lessons alone. It includes sharing responsibilities, supporting colleagues, and contributing wholeheartedly to the school community with dedication and teamwork.
